Over two dozen more people in connection with the NYC Social Security Disability (SSD) fraud scheme are expected to be arrested on Tuesday, February 25.

This arrest will follow the massive January arrest of over 100 former NYC police and firefighters. The arrested people filed for disability in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks, claiming mental and psychological disability.

Police allege that Sam Esposito and Douglas Hale are two leaders in the fraud, claiming that they helped other officers and firefighters fail psychological exams in order to receive benefits. The disability fraud was exposed after internet photos surfaced proving that the claimants were, in fact, not disabled.

It is frustrating to learn that some people without disabilities take advantage of a system that some people truly need.
