Approximately 305,000 Hyundai Sonata vehicles are being recalled in the U.S. to repair a problem in the “stop lamp switch,” an article of The New York Times reported on November 21.
Reports said the 2011-2012 Sonata models are equipped with automatic transmissions that could potentially be moved out of park without first depressing the brake pedal, causing the vehicles to roll away. These vehicle also have issues that may allow brake lights to remain lit even after the foot brake pedal has been released.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was told that the Korean automaker is still investigating the causes of both issues. Hyundai stated that they are unaware of any incidents or injuries involving the recalled Sonatas.
